I did not expect to make qso, but I was listening on 144.300 and 144.174 simultaneously when suddenly Stefan was audible very weak. I switched on my amp and a few minutes later his signal was real 59 for some minutes. See the video I recorded right after our qso https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvvys4F0GM4&t=124s

All QSO in SSB
Deep QSB at the beginning of the opening, then strong signals during about half an hour. Then the cloud moved northerly and UK stations were better located than me.
As usual again very few stations in SSB and a lot in FT8, it's really a pity. No doubt you have lost your microphone?
FT8 should be used only for weak signals under the noise as SSB contacts can be done must faster. And what a pleasure to hear the voice of his correspondent!

Some of the stations were very strong and lasting, other in and out.
Also decoded OH2FQV, SM2A, and right at the start EW8W KO42. But not after that one decode, maybe MS.
I briefly went to SSB, but didn't hear anyone at that time, so stayed on FT8. 5 new squares from 7 QSOs! 73 Bob

I missed at least the 1st 30 minutes of this opening -out shopping with my XYL again. Always a warning for others to stay alert for a 2m Es opening.

Managed to work 2 new locators, JO88 and KP30. I had been hoping to work Jussi in KP30 for a very long time and so I was very happy to find him in this opening. He was 59+++ here - as was many of the others I worked.

I worked all I could hear for a change and it was so nice to make SSB 2m QSOs with those I had only worked previously on FSK441 meteor scatter

When the SSB signals faded, I should have QSYed to FT8 on 174 as I later discovered that there were still QSOs to be had on that mode.

I saw from some spots that I did miss some of the locators I have been chasing for a long time bu tmaybe I will have another chance in any further openings before the Es season finally ends.

We were just returning from a 8h sightseeing trip when OK1TEH was sending SMS (tnx, Matej!) about high MUF. I quickly set up a single yagi and started to call CQ on 144.300 MHz. After some minutes the log was filling up; what a surprise. I was really happy to catch Es for the first time when on DXpedition. And well deserved for Matej we could make a contact. Looking forward to next opening ;-)

I was monitoring both 144.174 FT8 and 144.300 SSB as there Es going on, but for me the far end would be somwewhere in the Ocean west of Norway. Nothing at all was received nor heard.

Adter OK1TEH mentioned that Stefan LA0BY/p would be at 300 I turned the 4x14 towards JP21 and a few minutes after Ik heard OK1TEH working on 300, Stefan was weakly heard. One call and the QSO was than easy to complete. I could hear Stefan for quite some time, working one station after another and it was really a great joy to listen to someone operating in Es and NOT loosing his nerves. Unfortuantely, no other station was heard nor decoded in FT8. No flags either on Es distances when calling CQ myself.
