05. May 2013
Long MS-burst triggered ES-alerts but no real Sporadic E on 144 MHz reported yet. However MS condx were exellent, possible by η – Aquarids which might have peaked earlier as predicted.
However some stations reported very long reflections up to 3 to 4 minutes so the events started to look like Sporadic E. The map will give some indications from what was possible. Fact is that most active conteststations did not anticipate very well on this kind of conditions and were not switching to fast one burst QSO's. |

This time was a High MUF on 144MHz and the quality of this contactt wasn`t typical for Meteorscatter. I observed YU1EF some minutes before he was going down. Sure it was 1st ES in 2013!! 73 de Karsten |

Many stations SSB rised from noise slowly ( i saw in SDR from 144 250 - to 144 340) ! I made QSO with YU7TRI about 2 min - long for MS reflections. In this day i saw many short ES opening - made QSO with DR5M . HRD DR3M and others stations ! |

Rig: 144: 50W 9el Log: From 05:01 UTC to 05:09 UTC I listened IK5ZWU/6 and the first three minutes I heard one ping . Over the next minute I heard about 10 pings. Later I heard the whole QSO IK5ZWU/6 with another station. The signal was stable, clear, and after a while pings and again silence (05:09 UTC). I called Italy station in the best period, no response at my qrp equipment 9el.50W suggests MS long burst, no Es. Comment: 73! Peter sp8wjw |
