MUF was rising quick at southern mediterranean early in the morning, 144 opened from CT to I. Cloud was moving fast northwest. Activity was very poor, CT1HZE had "fun" with several beacons from I, HB and F and just a few hams from DL and F. Low number of QSO's due to lack of activity.
After an half hour break 144 was open again from CT and EA8 into UK.
Almost the same again in the evening, a big opening but now with lots of activity. Many were lucky and worked into rare CT3 and EA8. MUF was extreme high when CT worked into EA1. Even ZB2 and some CN were on in SSB and FM as well.

Comment:
While driving home after the job, I saw this opening should « hit » my qth. So I quickly made a simple vertical dipole that I taped on the window, and I made 2 QSO(in FM + SSB) before it ends. Later, it opens a 2nd time, and I worked again G4LOH Tim, 1 hour 30 after our 1st QSO !!! No other stations heard in Es, except ZB2B and EA7 via Tropo.

Very interesting day. In the morning signals were weak and not much activity, as expected at that time of the day. On the afternoon it was exactly the oposite. Tnx for 8 new grid and 1 new DXCC. However the most surprising QSO was with EA1HRR, only 700km away! CU next Es. 73 F.Costa, CT1EAT

Today I was the lucky one - was preparing material for DR9A July fieldday activity and was in the shack only accidentally when I heard CT1ZX on 300 - noone else answered - after the QSO another CT called me - we QSYed 250 and made the QSO.

It was only then when I recognized he was from CT3. Signal was 55/57 but audible here only for <1 minute.

I saw the good e-skip on the G7RAU map and followed the cluster spots. So I had good hope to work ES8 what I want to work since 32 years but nil. So next chance sure one day. Heard only those 2 stations and sometimes short CT1HZE nothing else. I have nice audio of both QSO's can be listen at: http://www.dk5ew.de/2012/07/05/sporadice-day-4-of-july/

Again just 1 worked. Joe was 59 plus for many minutes with nothing else heard intially but then CT1ZX was heard calling CQ on 144.310 - answered by G4PBP. The CT1 liked to chat and by the time the QSO was concluded, he was very weak. No EA8 heared here at all.

2nd opening:
Long periods of silence then 59+ signals througout the opening. ZB2B could have made at least twice the number of contacts if he didn't insist on chating as if he was operating on 6m.

144MHz
------
I only caught the opening after being at work and arriving home an hour late, after looking at the cluster and cursing why I had not looked at the cluster and come home earlier!.

Checked Band 2 (FM) before leaving work for home but nothing heard at my place of work 3 miles away from home.
Also heard CT1HZE (heard 59 at times). Tried to tail-end G4RGK on .275 but did not hear me (other stations calling).
Also heard CT1CAD on .300. He rx'd my callsign but faded into the noise before I received my report. My beam has to point through my house when beaming South - South West (Not ideal) hence the less signal reports.

50MHz
------
Operated on 50MHz after opening on 144MHz closed for me, but kept an eye on 144MHz.Also heard SA5A (JP80TA), OH1XX, YL1GB and an SM5???. Not bad for a small homebrew dipole antenna to get me QRV on 6m!

As I was preparing equipement for the holiday trip, I was QRV from JO22EB, not the best of places! Moreover, I had a lot of problems with my equipement during this opening. It took me 15 minutes to get any decent power at all from the PA, as it was tripping all the time. Also my noise level was very high (which turned out to be the switch mode PSU for the PA!). Still, most signals were rather weak, and Joe only peaked for 20s to s9+++, the remainder of the time he was just s5...7. I heard EA8AVI for 30s at s7, but no more EA8s heard (also due to the nosie problem).
